Tips for a safe 4th of July locksmith West Palm Beach. The 4th of July is fast approaching and with everyone preparing to celebrate the holiday with friends and family we wanted to put together some important safety tips to remember so that your festivities aren’t ruined with a disaster that could have been prevented.

Whether you are celebrating at home bbq’ing by the pool, going to a friend or family members’ home, or going to a public event make sure that you pack and take all the necessary items for your specific activities. Before leaving your home make sure that all of your windows and doors are shut and locked. If you will be out in the sun make sure to have sunscreen, hats, sun glasses, and even big umbrellas to protect you from the sun. There is nothing worse than a bad sunburn after a long day of celebrating a holiday. Make sure to have plenty of water to drink and stay hydrated. When having fun in the sun it is very important to stay hydrated as the sun speeds up dehydration and can cause heat stroke. If you are headed to the beach or out on the boat bringing zip lock bags are a good idea to keep your phones and keys in to prevent them from getting wet. Also make sure to have floatation devices for everyone on a boat, or for the kids that can’t swim or don’t swim well at a pool party. Public events can get very crowded, you should have a family discussion beforehand and come up with a plan just in case you get separated. Locate the information booths and make sure small children know their phone numbers from memory. Advise them if they get separated from parents to go to the information booth or find a police officer.

Fireworks are a huge part of any 4th of July celebration. They are a perfect end to a day of fun. However, fireworks are very dangerous and should be handled with caution. Before it’s actually time to enjoy them they should be stored in a safe cool space away from children. When lighting them off it should be done in an open space away from trees and houses to prevent them from falling back down and starting a fire. There should always be adult supervision when they are being lit and you should never try to reignite any. They can cause horrible injuries if you do so. It’s always a good idea to have a fire extinguisher on hand in the event a fire is started.

Last but not least, this is the most important tip of the blog. Always have a designated driver or plan to stay where you are if you are impaired. A long day of hanging out and celebrating with friends and family usually consists of a lot of drinking for some. Staying where you are or having a designated driver will not only potentially save you from getting a DUI but it could save a life. Yours or someone else’s!
